Le Centre d’interprétation de l’historique de la protection de la forêt contre le feu
www.ci-chateaulogue.qc.ca
Maniwaki has earned a reputation as a leader in fighting forest fires as developed by the specialists in the field, Sopfeu - an acronym for the “Société de protection des forêts contre le feu”. Over the years, the Sopfeu has performed valuable research and perfected techniques for battling forest fires. Delegations from around the world come to the Sopfeu to study its techniques in fire prevention and fire fighting.
Several decades ago, the province of Quebec had more than 500 observation towers in use. Several of those were located in the forests around the Maniwaki area. Now you can climb up a 80 feet high newly reconstructed tower at the Interpretation Centre next to the Chateau Logue.
